The audience have named the best films of the 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival!

The audience of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival have picked their favorite film and given it the people’s choice award known as the Documentary Warsaw Award. It is accompanied by a prize of EUR 2000, funded by the City of Warsaw. All the films screened during the Festival were eligible to win. Every viewer was able to vote and thus become a juror of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival!

The Bydgoszcz ART.DOC Award was given to “Honeyland” by Lyubomir Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska

The jury of the Main Competition of the 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival in Bydgoszcz consisting of: Justyna Mazur, Emilia Walczak, and Mateusz Buława, having familiarized themselves with 13 competition entries, decided to give the Bydgoszcz ART.DOC Award of the 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival and its accompanying EUR 1500 to… Tamara Kotevska and Lyubomir Stefanov for the film “Honeyland”! The film had earlier received the Silesian Grand Prix – the Award of the Marshall of the Silesian Voivodeship, and the festival’s top honor – the Bank Millennium Award.

The Silesian Grand Prix goes to „Honeyland”!

We have learned the winners of the Katowice edition of the 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity festival! The jury gave the Award of the Marshall of the Silesian Voivodeship and its accompanying EUR 3000 prize to “Honeyland” by Lyubomir Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska. The film had earlier claimed the festival’s top honor – the Bank Millennium Award.

On 16 May, at Teatr Studio in Warsaw, the 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival awards ceremony took place. But it did not mark the end of the 16th edition of the biggest celebration of documentary cinema in Poland – we still have a weekend filled with exciting films and events to look forward to in Warsaw, Wrocław, Katowice, Bydgoszcz, and Lublin. In Gdynia, the festival ends on 24 May.

The award gala and the premiere screening of “A Dog Called Money”

The award gala and the premiere screening of “A Dog Called Money” by Seamus Murphy will take place on Thursday May 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Teatr Studio in the Palace of Culture and Science. Ticket sales for this event exclusively at the Festival Center in Kinoteka.

This year the festival is helping dogs!

You will have the opportunity to support the Karuna Foundation, which fights against dog homelessness, in each of our festival centers in the festival cinemas.

A press conference which presented selected hits of the coming 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival, the largest documentary festival in Poland, was held in the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute. This year, the Festival will be held in six Polish cities: Warsaw (Kinoteka, Luna and Iluzjon), Wrocław (Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe), Gdynia (Gdyńskie Centrum Filmowe), Lublin (Centrum Spotkania Kultur), Bydgoszcz (Kino Orzeł) and, thanks to the cooperation with Silesia Film, in Katowice, for the first time!

Latest films by Werner Herzog and Agnès Varda

The audiences in Warsaw, Gdynia, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz, Lublin and, for the first time, Katowice, will see the latest film by the Oscar nominee, legendary director Werner Herzog "Meeting Gorbachev". This is a summit meeting of the cinema's master and Mikhail Gorbachev, the Nobel Prize winning Soviet leader, as well as a tale on the events which shaped today's geopolitical landscape.

Debates, concerts and meetings with special guests

Just as every year, as a part of the Documentary Academy, additional events which are closely linked to the film programme will take place. They are organised together with the largest NGOs, institutions and the media partners. The Documentary Academy is also about a programme for different groups of spectators, including children and seniors.

Journalism – today's hope

Engaged political journalism is the theme of "The Panama Papers", in which Alex Winter tells the story of probably the largest scandal involving the famous of today's world hiding incomes in tax havens.

13 films will compete in the Main Competition

13 films will compete for the Main Bank Millennium Award – the Grand Prix of the 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival. The festival will be held in six cities, including Katowice where it will take place for the first time, thanks to the cooperation with Silesia Film.

To our invitation to BREAK FREE! – from stereotypes and habits with documentary cinema have responded more than 60 000 cinemagoers, in five Polish cities, by going to festival screenings! And 65 000 – is the total number of people participating in the screenings and accompanying festival events! We would like to invite you to the next edition of the biggest celebration of documentary films in Poland. The 16th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival will take place May 10-19 2019! Russian filmmakers murdered in Africa

We are extremely shaken by the death of filmmakers Aleksander Rastorguew, Orkhan Dzhemal and Kirill Radczenko in the Central African Republic. They were most probably killed for making a film about the connection between the mercenaries of Central Africa and Russia’s operations, not only in that country, but also in Syria and in the Ukraine.
